Voluntary One Way System

For some years now we have operated a voluntary one way system to help manage the road congestion outside the School at the beginning and end of the school day.

The voluntary one-way system works in a clockwise direction from St Georges Walk, west along Church Lane past the School, and exiting onto the A29. Please see the map below.

The system operates between 8:15am-8:45am and 2:50pm-3:20pm.

This system means that all parents/carers are moving in the same direction at peak times, reducing the difficulties of people trying to pass on this narrow rural road. It is important to note that this is not a formal one way system, therefore not enforceable, but we look for support from parents/carers and other interested parties to make this work it is important for people to understand that there may be non-school related traffic moving in the other direction. 

The system was developed following a number of meetings with the West Sussex Highways, Transport and Planning team to discuss the options and agree a way forward. Moving forward the plan is to have the system advertised by using sign posts and to also work at improving the drop off facilities.
