Art and Design
INTENT
We aim for children to develop creativity skills and knowledge of artists and genres through engaging activities where their work and ideas are celebrated and they are able to express their own ideas. Children will be given opportunities to explore both the spiritual dimension and natural phenomena of the world around them. They will be encouraged to explore artists’ interpretations of a key figure, event or landscape and ask questions and reflect on their work.
IMPLEMENTATION
Through a carefully planned sequenced journey, pupils will learn to interpret and harness a deeper understanding of art and design. They will learn about great artists, craft makers and designers and understand their historical and cultural significance. Links are made between art and design and design technology, when appropriate. Pupils will explore, refine and reflect on their ideas and create well thought through works of art. Teachers aim to to build and develop children’s existing art skills.
IMPACT
Children will become inspired to produce original works of art, which they are proud of and they are able to be reflective in the evaluation of their own learning as well as to reflect and talk about the work of artists they have been studying.
